CertiFLYYed, a midwest rap group orignally from Fort Wayne, Indiana released their sophomore mixtape Flyy or Die 2 a few months ago. After their street buzzing performance on 106 & Park’s Wild Out Wednesday I was approached with the opportunity to catch up with Kae-P, 1/3 of CertiFLYYed to get some insight on their latest project Flyy or Die 2 and upcoming projects.
What were some inspirations for FOD2?
Being able to experience more the lifestyle we embody in our music and talk about is definitely an inspiration. It’s not so much now our imagination of the nice things we once wanted. Although we haven’t received all of what we dreamed about, we feel that since we’ve experienced a piece of that lifestyle we are able to express our experiences better through our music.
What can new listeners expect from FOD2?
A mixture of everything. With three people in a group you can expect a well-rounded sound from the club hits, to the lyrical content cuts and street records and even the more laid back records the ladies would enjoy.
What did you do differently on FOD2 from FOD, and how do you feel you improved as an artist and brand?
The biggest transition is the content. We toned it down as far as being overly materialistic and focused more on being true to how we’re living. We lived through the buying out VIP and the nicer cars so it’s not as cliché as it once was.
As far as sound quality we took more time and got a lot more input on the records as it was in the works. The feedback allowed us the critiques needed to become better artists.
How has the appearance on 106 n Park changed your approach on music and marketing yourself? Did you get any plugs from the show?
The amount of love we got from it gave us an incentive to keep doing what we’ve been doing and to go harder. Even though we didn’t win Wild Out Wednesday on BET we feel that the exposure was key.
What is your favorite record on FOD2 and what is the most personal record to you?
Thug Love is my most favorite record. It’s not soft to where a dude can’t bump it in the car but it’s not too hard for the ladies not to enjoy it.
As far as the group the track No Stoppin Us really brought out the testament for the group as far as us grinding to get to this point and the challenges we’ve overcame just to maintain and move forward.
What’s the next move for CertiFLYYed?
We’ll be back in New York again for 106 & Park for a private showcase called Blaze The Stage, but it won’t be televised so we’ll have highlight footage of it of it on our Youtube channel. Also another official music video for the song Victory is looking to be dropped in the next couple months. This video is more of a action pack story line as far as video production goes.
Music wise our next mixtape drops Halloween entitled CertiFLYYed Business and also Flyy or Die 3 can be expected to drop right after that for download too. Also a viral video of our song No Stoppin Us will be dropping in a few days too.
Flyy or Die 2 is definitely a bass teaser for the trunk this summer. Besides the increasingly popularity for the track Goin’ Dumb, another personal favorite track is Hustle Hard remake in which all three members held their own. In all, FOD2 is a tape you want in your iTunes before the summer is over.
